The Skills Abacus is a neat little tool we’re working on with Jobs Go Public.

It’s staggering, but 40% of kids in the UK actually go backwards academically in their first year at secondary school (often called ‘transition’). There are a number of social as well as pedagogical reasons for this, but with the Skills Abacus we’re hoping to allow pupils to take more control over their own learning and development. It’s still at a prototype stage at the moment, being tested in a single school but the results already look very promising. The website is private so there’s not a lot to see at the moment, but watch this space – we have big ambitions for this tool!
